A terceira fase da publicação electrónica Através do E-Media Tidbits, é-nos sugerida a leitura de um texto interessante de Martin Nisenholtz, responsável pelo New York Times Digital, que analisa as últimas décadas no plano da edição electrónica e anuncia a chegada de uma "terceira fase": Observa Nisenholtz: "(...)we are entering a phase where electronic publishers like nytimes.com will evolve from sorting, distributing and making accessible content created principally for other formats, to creating content that is native to the computing world from which we evolved. (...)" Vêm, depois, as três fases: "The first phase, which began after World War II, is characterized by the aggregation and sorting of the world's knowledge, and of making this knowledge accessible to specialized groups of users, principally for commercial, government and academic purposes. The second phase, which began in earnest in the early 90s, extends this aggregation and sorting function to a global consumer base. This second phase is characterized by the development of interface and standardization. The third phase, which we have not yet entered, but may be very close, is characterized by creativity – that is, the birth of wholly new forms of publishing media that borrow from the elements of the first two phases, but bring users new and original ways of communicating. " No documento, é feita referência a um influente artigo de Vannevar Bush, de 1945, intitulado "As We May Think", que pode ser consultado AQUI.
